Making a difference - The Ripple Effect

Looking at the world around us, you see people of all shapes and sizes. Some carry a Louis Vuitton bag and others wear a garbage bag. But who gets to define that this is how we live. Who get’s to decide if you deserve to be a royal or to be living in a slum.

Surrounding me I see tall buildings and my worst concern is whether I have food at home cooked for me or if I have to walk down to get it. And yet in the world there are people who don’t even have a roof above their head or water to quench their thirst.

Many youngsters these days find themselves having the inspiration to do something different from their parents. Not wanting to follow their footsteps because they want to do something different and create a name for themselves. But that’s because they’re given the opportunity. So is it fair that another youngster, with the same drive and passion to succeed is stuck in his state of helplessness, just because the entire generation before him has been living in a slum. How is it fair that he isn’t given a fair chance just because he is voided from the circle of opportunity that surrounds the youngster from a better background?

“The rich get richer; and the poor get poorer” Everyone has heard of that saying. Everyone agrees it’s creating an unnatural division in humanity. Why is one man superior and another inferior?

As much as the world sees this problem and as much as no one likes it when it affects them, no one seems to be doing anything about it. Why aren’t people in influential positions helping those in need to help themselves?

Everyone needs to start making an effort. Everyone needs to take a step forward and give a hand to help those in need of it to stop the cycle. Every man is equal and deserves to live in comfort. No one get’s it easy. There are people out there with no education and haven’t been taught life skills. But what if those who have more than their hands and pockets can hold, give some to those who need it?

Even then the natural hierarchy of behavior in us is inevitable- there would still be a leader, or a guide to help maintain order. But why does the difference between the person on top and the person at the bottom have to be to the lengths of shelter, food, water and even medical attention when all these are a basic human right to survive?

Each of us can make a difference. Help one man in need help himself. And he in return may or may not help someone else. One can hope. If everyone has some hope and takes a step forward, in return the person who was given help may help another.

That, is the ripple effect; It might just ripple across the entire world and induce a zest of energy that might make the world a happier place to be in.

You can give a man food for a day, but giving him seeds and shovel can help him provide for himself for a much longer time and he would soon learn how to survive on his own 2 feet.
